Who can join Recoverun?

The Recoverun program is intended for adults (18 and over) in addiction recovery. Participants do not have to be members of any particular recovery program, however Recoverun is NOT intended to substitute or replace any other recovery care. All participants must be healthy enough to engage in moderate to strenuous exercise. The program is designed for new runners or "lapsed" runners, and does not require any athletic experience for participation.


How is the program structured?

Each location meets at least twice per week, and athletes are expected to attend two trainings each week. This year, some locations are offering both morning and evening sessions in order to accommodate everyone's busy schedules. The program is based on a simple structure: Motivation, Movement, Meditation. We begin each meeting with a theme, or motivation for the day. We then walk/run as a group following a simple program that allows for gentle yet steady progression. Finally, we end with a meditation, wherein participants are invited to share their thoughts or feelings on the workout (or not - low pressure). 


Is Recoverun an anonymous program?

No. While none of the personal information shared in our group discussions will be shared outside the group, every member must sign a liability waiver which includes contact information for the participant and an emergency contact. Recoverun is not associated with any 12-step or faith-based program, nor are we part of any weight loss program, fitness center or gym. We are our own awesome, unique, recovery-focused running training program. That being said, we recognize that there are many personal pathways to recovery. We respect and honor whatever program or lifestyle brought you to recovery.


What do I need to participate in Recoverun?

Proper attire is at the discretion of each participant, however running shoes with socks are required. We will be running outdoors, and the "rule of thumb" is to dress for ten degrees warmer than the outside temperature.

 

How often are the training sessions? Do I have to attend all sessions in order to participate?

Recoverun meets for eight weeks, and each participant is encouraged to attend two sessions per week. The workouts get progressively harder with each training, which is how we build endurance. The progress you make is reflective of how often you show up!  While the program itself is free, we ask that you respect the time and energy expended by our training leader.

How much does the program cost?

Recoverun is a free program for participants. We do ask that our participants assist in fundraising for their participation in our 5K at the end of the season. Sponsorship forms are provided, and we arrange for a reduced rate for our runners.
